The East Cancer Center buzzed with excitement and a shared sense of appreciation during its open house on Wednesday, April 1. Compass team members welcomed US Representative April Dobson (District 39), Oregon Senator Mark Meek (District 20), area physicians and colleagues, representatives from local nonprofits, business partners, and leaders from The US Oncology Network.

Guests toured the facility and learned how the state-of-the-art space supports high-quality, compassionate care. Team members shared insights throughout the tour, including how the lab and phlebotomy areas focus on patient connection, how radiation is precisely delivered, and how the building design supports collaboration among care teams. Many visitors were especially impressed by the bright and welcoming treatment room.

Leaders and guests highlighted the impact of the new space. Dr. John Schuler, a radiation oncologist with Compass Oncology, noted that the facility reflects the compassion of the people who care for patients there.

“We are extremely proud of this facility, where our patients are welcomed with warmth and compassion. The beauty of this new building directly reflects the hearts of the people who care for our patients every day within these walls."

Meagan Sampogna, The US Oncology Network Chief Operating Officer, described the strong sense of pride and energy from the team and the meaningful patient experience the space provides.

“The turnout was impressive! What stood out most was the palpable energy, excitement, and pride from the team. It was clear not only how proud they are of the space itself, but also how meaningful it is to them to be able to offer such an exceptional environment and experience for the patients you serve every day.”

Dr. Mikki Babicky, a surgical oncologist at Compass Oncology, shared appreciation for having a comfortable, accessible environment to support difficult patient conversations.

“It was so exciting to celebrate the opening of our new East Cancer Center! I’m grateful to have a beautiful space to share with patients. Our clinic conversations are always challenging. Having an easily accessible and comfortable environment to welcome them is an important part of their care experience. Thank you for all the hard work that made this possible! Well done!”

The staff was recognized for the effort that went into planning the event and bringing the new center to life.
