Chemotherapy 101...The Getting Started Program

The Getting Started program is separated into three sections:

STEP 1
What is cancer?

The first section is a narrative about cancer. It discusses the types of cancer, how the type and stage of the disease determines the treatment regimen (i.e. drugs, surgery and radiation), how chemotherapy works and why there are potential side effects.

STEP 2
Chemotherapy - Getting Started
Please print the Getting Started Study Guide and then watch the 45-minute chemotherapy education video which discusses the possible side effects of chemotherapy.

STEP 3
Personal Assessment
The third section is completion of the stress and nutrition form which takes about five minutes.

  • The first part of the online form creates a check list of the daily stressors in your life.  Our goal is to identify these stressors and help alleviate them by finding appropriate community resources, programs and support groups.
  • The second  part of the online form is focused on nutrition and will help us to determine if you have significant weight loss or have current symptoms.

After completing the stress and nutrition form, you will receive a follow-up phone call to answer any questions you have specific to your treatment plan and enable us to tailor your care to fully meet your needs.  We will also provide you with a list of resources offering support.
